Sarah Curtis
Sarah attended Phillips Exeter Academy and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with Highest Honors in Comparative Religion and English from Harvard College where she won a Detur Prize and was named a John Harvard Scholar for top academic standing. She also won a Thomas T. Hoopes Prize recognizing excellence in undergraduate research for her senior thesis on the poet Elizabeth Bishop and the liberal theology. While teaching elementary school at St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn, she earned a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Sarah Lawrence College.
A teacher for over ten years, she has taught preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school age students. Sarah believes that deep learning depends upon a trusting relationship with student and teacher. Her love of teaching derives from a love of school, but more importantly from a respect for the challenge of learning. Sarah may have been a good student, but she understands that school can be extremely hard. Her great hope as a teacher is to help students find ways to discover how learning can be a joyful responsibility. She strives to develop students’ confidence as they navigate the world of school even and especially because it can be so difficult. She especially loves helping students young and old develop their ability to read and write.
