Dr. Tony Charuvastra

Founding Director

Tony Charuvastra graduated Cum laude from Brown University in 1996, and received his Medical Degree from Brown in 2002.  He completed his adult psychiatry training at UCLA in 2006 and his child and adolescent psychiatry training at NYU Langone Medical Center in 2008.  He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Medical Center, teaches in NYU’s College of Arts and Sciences, and is a Faculty Advisor at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. He has received numerous honors and awards while at Brown, UCLA, and NYU, and published more than 25 papers in diverse areas of psychiatry.  For the past decade he has been focussed on developing his clinical practice of psychiatry and teaching.  He treats children and young adults with anxiety, ADHD, executive function weakness and other learning disorders.  Through this work, he has become increasingly aware of the important intersection between learning and well-being for students of all ages, and this led him to found Connect to Learn.

Tony’s experience in education spans several domains.  He is privileged to be a Trustee of Saint Ann’s School, in Brooklyn, and this experience has given him a deep appreciation of the complexity of teaching and the power that learning has to shape people’s lives.  He has taught over 1,700 students at NYU since 2010, and has advised a number of Gallatin students in their thesis projects.  And his work with doctors in training within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU has made him a strong believer in the importance of life-long learning.  Among the many things that he loves about his work as a psychiatrist is that in a given year, he uses just about everything he has ever learned since he was in high school with his patients.
